Clinical studies and evaluative reports on hip protectors are widely available from sources in the U.S. and, most recently, Israel (http://www.jamda.com/article/S1525-8610(07)00510-5/abstract) along with several other countries but seldom do they originate in Canada. Today we are shouting from the rooftops about a May 2008 report from the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health which affirms the effectiveness of hip protectors. Follow this link for the summary of this report: http://www.cadth.ca/index.php/en/publication/818 or to view the entire report in pdf format follow this link: http://www.cadth.ca/media/pdf/I3015_Hip_Protectors_Long_Term_Care_tr_e.pdf. In reading the report we were pleased to note that HipSaver Hip Protectors are referenced several times and recognized as “the most widely available model in Canada.” We might have added “and they work and people will wear them” but you already know that!
