A brand new study published in the January 2015 edition of Osteoporosis International has proven, yet again, that the use of hip protectors is cost effective. Looking at measurements from two perspectives – quality-adjusted life years and health insurance savings – it was found that both measurements show savings for patients in a German geriatric ward who wore hip protectors versus those who did not wear them.
In the final analysis, lead authors Björn Stollenwerk and Thomas Bartmus found that “all scenarios showed acceptable cost-effectiveness ratios or even savings.”
If wearing HipSaver Hip Protectors could save money and improve quality of life in a geriatric ward, just imagine what they could do to prevent community dwelling seniors from ending up there because of a fall in the first place.
